Guess Who’s Back?!

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m back and better than ever!  I’ve taken a necessary hiatus from this blog, but due to the current social climate I’ve decided to relaunch this blog.  Starting in October, I will go back to writing articles based on that Third Eye Point of View.  I have so much to say and so much to share.  So stay tuned and go tell your friends about it because things around here are about to go galactic!

Happy Birthday Bob!

Bob Marley would’ve been 70 years old today had he lived.  His spirit and the spirit of his music however, will live on forever. And the wisdom of his words are needed now more than ever.  I discovered the music of Robert Nesta ‘Bob’ Marley at a very, very young age and as a teenager I learned more about the man behind the music.

Needless to say, I’m a fan and as the years go by, it disturbs me that many people only see him as this ganja smoking, philandering icon.  Many have forgotten the principles that he stood for, the sacrifices he made and the message of Love that he spread. He was a musical pioneer, a revolutionary, a Soul rebel and most importantly, a lover of, and a provider to his people.  He always spoke his truth, he always stood for what he believed, and regardless of the hatred that he endured, he continued to represent Love.

Vivien Goldman, a British author who has written two books about Mr. Marley, posted an in-depth article to commemorate his 70th Birthday. She speaks about her time spent interviewing Bob, and what we can still learn from the message he spread over 30 years ago.  So, please click here to read the article, and in the mean time, start Jammin’ to celebrate the day this legend was born.

Big Freedia bounced his way into the Guinness Book of World Records today. With over 300 people simultaneously twerking to Big Freedia’s hit song, history was made today in NYC!  History was not only made for the current dance craze, but history was made for the long standing culture of Bounce music.

5,4,3,2,1…Make that Ass sound Like a Gun!

bigfreedia2

Not too many people know this about me, but I’m a huge, huge fan of Southern rap music…ALL southern rap music.  Especially, that New Orleans Bounce music and those New Orleans rump shakers.  For those who don’t know, I’m from the south, but I now live in Brooklyn and living in Brooklyn means that  southern rap music, especially underground southern rap music, gets little if any, local radio airplay!  I truly miss hearing that ass shaking music and believe me, Pandora can be of little help.  So when I found out via Facebook that the New Orleans bounce artist, Big Freedia (The Queen Diva) will be in NYC tomorrow to set a world record bounce/twerk attempt, I said to myself, “Awww shit now, you have to be a part of this!”  So tomorrow at 12:00 noon on 34th Street Herald Square, I will be there bouncin’ to that New ‘Awlins sound I grew up on and know oh so well.    I will be there to pay homage to my Southern roots, I will be there for all of the bounce artists who hoped for this mainstream moment, but are no longer here with us (R.I.P) and I will be there to support Big Freedia.  But most of all, I will be there to shake my ass!

To learn more about Big Freedia click here.  Also tune in to Fuse TV on October 2nd to watch Big Freedia’s new reality show “Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce”.

Nick Ashford passed away today at the age of 70.  One-half of the duo Ashford & Simpson, the iconic song-writing legend was battling throat cancer according to a former publicist. For over four decades, the duo has written hit songs, not only for themselves, but for many R&B legends.

Nick will be missed, but never forgotten.  Thank you for the beautiful songs!

Chris ‘Shut-It-Down’ Brown

“When Team Breezy do it, we do it big!”, is what I heard a young woman say as she was on her way to see Chris Brown in concert this morning.  And big was an understatement.

Chris Brown is the first mega star to shut down NYC in a long time.  As a matter of fact The Today Show stated that it was the biggest turnout in their summer concert history-ever!  For some however, this may come as a surprise, but for others it’s no surprise at all.   His latest album F.A.M.E. has yet to go platinum, but he can still bring out a crowd of 18,000+ fans for a free concert at Rockefeller Center.  Much of this has to do with his talent and amazing appeal, not only to teenagers, but to everyone.  Depending on who you are, Chris could be your son, brother, uncle, cousin, boyfriend, best friend, teenage crush, cougar crush or simply your next door neighbor.  Massive appeal and extraordinary talent can lead to ultimate success, regardless of mishaps along the way.

That was proven this morning as Chris Brown took to the stage in front of 18,000+ fans and onlookers, who didn’t care about past mishaps or misspoken words, but only cared about seeing a talented young man who is well deserving of all the success that’s coming his way.
