Guess Who’s Back?!

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m back and better than ever!  I’ve taken a necessary hiatus from this blog, but due to the current social climate I’ve decided to relaunch this blog.  Starting in October, I will go back to writing articles based on that Third Eye Point of View.  I have so much to say and so much to share.  So stay tuned and go tell your friends about it because things around here are about to go galactic!

Happy Birthday Bob!

Bob Marley would’ve been 70 years old today had he lived.  His spirit and the spirit of his music however, will live on forever. And the wisdom of his words are needed now more than ever.  I discovered the music of Robert Nesta ‘Bob’ Marley at a very, very young age and as a teenager I learned more about the man behind the music.

Needless to say, I’m a fan and as the years go by, it disturbs me that many people only see him as this ganja smoking, philandering icon.  Many have forgotten the principles that he stood for, the sacrifices he made and the message of Love that he spread. He was a musical pioneer, a revolutionary, a Soul rebel and most importantly, a lover of, and a provider to his people.  He always spoke his truth, he always stood for what he believed, and regardless of the hatred that he endured, he continued to represent Love.

Vivien Goldman, a British author who has written two books about Mr. Marley, posted an in-depth article to commemorate his 70th Birthday. She speaks about her time spent interviewing Bob, and what we can still learn from the message he spread over 30 years ago.  So, please click here to read the article, and in the mean time, start Jammin’ to celebrate the day this legend was born.

The Original Black Bunny

Jennifer Jackson was ahead of her time and didn’t even know it-nor was she proud of it.   In 1965, amidst the civil rights movement, Ms. Jackson became the first African-American playmate for Playboy Magazine.  However, it was not something she was proud of.  Due to the new TV series, The Playboy Club, Ms. Jackson’s previous centerfold career has become the center of attention once again and she did an exclusive interview with The  Huffington Post.   Jennifer Jackson explains how she was ashamed after posing nude,  her pursuit of higher education and how she didn’t feel like a pioneer at all.  To read her amazing story, click here.

A Must See…

Oprah Presents Master Class is a must see television show.  I have watched every Master Class show thus far and have learned so much, but it was Oprah’s very own Master Class that moved my spirit beyond anything imaginable.

In parts 1 & 2 she speaks of her life journey and the peaks and valleys traveled, but it was all about the lessons learned and what can be gained which are inspirational.  We can all learn something from someone else, but Oprah encourages us to learn from ourselves first and foremost.  To listen to ‘the whispers’, never give in to doubt, stop worrying about the other person and remain true to yourself, were reinforcements for my spirit.  What I loved about her Master Class in particular was the way she spoke to the camera.  Being that she is so comfortable in front of the camera,  it was as if I was having a one-on-one student/teacher conversation with her and she was teaching me what I needed to know to get through this school of life.

The only thing I can say is that no matter where you are on your life journey, every single one of us can learn a lesson from Oprah’s journey.  Please watch her Master Class series, it is truly life changing television.

Judging American Idol

L to R: Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson

After watching the first two nights of American Idol season 10 auditions, I am sold!!  I absolutely love the chemistry between the judges.  Newcomers Steve Tyler and Jennifer Lopez is exactly what this show needed, and Randy Jackson seems thrilled that they joined him on the judging panel.

There has been so much negative commentary out there about the judges being too nice, but I disagree.  As far as Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez are concerned, they know first hand what it is like to have a dream and they know what it takes to make that dream come into fruition.   I don’t think that when judging someone’s talent, you have to be mean-spirited or a smart-ass.  We all miss Simon, but Simon was his genuine self as a judge, which is why we loved his commentary.  I like the fact that Jennifer and Steven are the same way, staying true to who they are.  Giving criticism is not an easy task, but I think the new panel of American Idol judges are doing just fine.
